2016. Historic barn find and an exceptional story

Where would you expect to locate the last ever numbers match, 1973 911 RHD 2.7RS - How about in Trinidad, not only that it was found abandoned in a barn surrounded by the local chickens.

Apart from its history and mechanical DNA, this car also has a story. One that includes a tropical life in the Caribbean, mystifying spec options, suspect modifications and, er, a murder.

A great article can be found in the Top Gear magazine. Click Here

2015. Porsche specialist Autofarm gets new owners

After 40 years of running one of the UK’s best-known independent Porsche specialists, Josh Sadler has sold Oxfordshire-based Autofarm for an undisclosed sum.

But although Josh’s workload will be a bit lighter from now on, he isn’t retiring from the business altogether. The deal means he will continue to work at the business as heritage director, while the new management team of Mikey Wastie and Steve Wood will handle the day-to-day running of the business.

Josh said, ‘Stepping away from the day-to-day running will enable me to focus more on our car sales and classic and heritage side.

2011. Steve Wood official joins the Autofarm team

Having worked closely with Autofarm for many years as the owner of Bodyshop Management Ltd, Steve officially joins the family and takes up his position of Service Manager.

His brief was to build and grow the servicing department maintaining its reputation in the classic Porsche arena but more importantly, develop a strategy to grow its servicing plans for the modern Porsche models.

2007. Beirut Renovation

This 1973 Carrera RS 2.7 M471 Sport ‘Lightweight' has an amazing history, overcoming conflict in the Middle East and has a truly amazing story. It's competed in various local and regional rallies, with the high point being the Beirut-Damascus Rally.

During the wars that continued through the 70's and 80's, the car's owner parked it in an out-building next to the family home.

When hostilities finally ceased and some semblance of normalcy began to return to the city, the family, who had long since departed the war-torn country, was contacted by someone involved in the rebuilding work. He had uncovered the car and wanted to know what to do with it.

2003 Another original barn find

Josh unearths a rare 911s in Luton after following up on a lead 2 years later. Nicknamed "MUD" this 1971 911s was originally registered in Northern Ireland where it competed in the International Circuit of Ireland Rally and finished second in its class.

Brought to England in 1974 it was registered various times, only to be left neglected at the bottom of a garden in Luton, where it remained for many years until Josh came knocking on the door.

Investigations took a while but eventually Josh discovered the original "COI 6" registration. However, before the car and the plates could be reunited it had to be inspected by the Northern Ireland DVLA.

Josh set Mikey and a fellow mechanic the task of driving this historic 911s back to Northern Ireland for its inspection. Everything went well and the Porsche 911s was successfully reunited with its "COI 6" plates.

1998. Who would have guessed, the new generation

Mikey (now part-owner) started at Autofarm as an apprentice working in all areas of the business. During Mikey's early time with the business, Autofarm also started its planning of Project 200 and its millennium car.

Business continues to do well as new Geometry equipment is added, first backdate is conceived and new Projects building developed.

Mikey increases the capacity for projects by developing surrounding buildings.

1993. We're moving, again.

Having outgrown the delightful Penn buildings quietly tucked away at the bottom of a leafy lane, the Autofarm team moved to a real farm, but this time surrounded by 400 acres and with a long sweeping drive. Housed in Oddington Grange's historic farm buildings, the environment is perfect - quiet, stylish and full of character, but remaining very firmly as they began - informal, but professional.

In 1995 Autofarm expanded their operation by adding a small four car showroom.

1991. Another move....

At this point, Josh decided to go solo and was soon joined by Jack at the modest workshop and office facility at Josh's home in Penn.

By summer 1991, Mike Evans had gone across too and they were back to servicing the needs of their customers.

1987. We're moving, again.

In late 1986 Autofarm Ltd moved to a large 14,000 sq. ft modern garage on a 1.7 acre site on the main A41 near Tring.

Running the Porsche operation, whilst also running a main dealer franchise for Suzuki and SAAB, seemed to be an exciting direction into which to expand.

Unfortunately things didn't work out as planned and in 1991 when the recession bit, Autofarm downsized rather dramatically.

1983. Racing, not posing

From 1975 to 1987, Josh and Steve regularly and successfully ran Porsches in club competition (excellent for business promotion, but a little hard on the business net profitability!) and in 1983 were among the instigators of what has become a very successful production Porsche race series.

1977. With success comes expansion

In 1977, having outgrown the Iver site, Autofarm took over the lease at an old garage site in Amersham-on-the-Hill, Bucks, providing some 8,000 sq.ft. of workshops, offices and a small showroom.

This allowed the business to further expand and consolidate its position, within both the National and International Porsche enthusiast market, as a leading supplier of parts and specialist engineering services, plus alongside Porsche sales.

1973. Where it all began

Early in 1972, Josh Sadler and Steve Carr, then employees at Glacier Bearings in Wembley, formed a partnership, with the initial purpose of identifying a sector of the specialist Motor Trade that offered the best combination of engineering interest and commercial potential.

In 1973 Josh and Steve left Glacier Bearings and registered their partnership as Autofarm. After an abortive attempt to set up on a farm, the pair soon secured rented garage workshops in Iver, Buckinghamshire (Bucks.) and started what almost immediately became an exclusively Porsche business.
